Jan Porterfield, 1949 - 2007. Jan was born in Wichita, Kansas, spent many years in Britain, and then moved to Alaska in 1988. She took watercolor lessons off and on for several years, and started devoting serious attention to her art after her cancer diagnosis in 2000. Art was an effective therapy and also proved to be a source of pleasure to others. In the short time she was painting professionally, Jan's work was accepted into three juried shows and she also had several solo exhibitions at a local gallery. Her husband, placed her work online as a way of sharing her artistic legacy with others. Jan painted each piece with joy, and her husband hopes viewing her work gives others some of that same joy.
